5. A Christmas Carol
There have been many adaptations of this Charles Dickens' classic tale of miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, who discovers it's not too late to change his ways thanks to some haunting Christmas ghosts that show him the past, present and future. But the 1950 version starring Alistair Sim as the contemptuously cantankerous coot is a favorite of many. He's a one-man tour de force, bringing humor and humbuggery in equal amounts.
