"Respect" Was Originally A Cover
The song was originally sung by Otis Redding, but Franklin made it her own when she covered it. She included a gospel-style piano, the spelling out of “R-E-S-P-E-C-T,” and the quick “sock it to me” and "just a little bit" riffs.
