4. They Were Bred To Fish
Labradors were bred to fish, and their ancestors, St. John's water dogs, assisted fishermen in the water. These hardy medium-sized black dogs had special water-proof coats that allowed them to swim in the freezing Labrador sea, which helped them retrieve distant lines or nets and haul them back into the fishing boats. 

Because of that, Labradors were bred to fish. Since they are descendants of the St. John's water dog, they have double coats and webbed paws to make it easier to swim!
