Moms Were The Real Stars At This Year’s Oscars
Forget the gorgeous gowns and slapstick comedy. The best Oscar moments had to do with moms.
There’s no doubt about it: Moms took center stage at the 91st Academy Awards.
Sure, everyone was talking about Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s duet of “Shallow” and Olivia Colman getting the big surprise win — but the most heartwarming moments from the 2019 Oscars had to do with moms.
Even before heading out onto the red carpet, Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan posted a photo of himself with his mom, Donna Jordan, on Instagram. "My mama about to make me have to fight somebody she looking so pretty," he wrote.
A number of celebrities graced the red carpet with their mothers as their dates — because while bringing your partner to the Oscars is nice and everything, absolutely nothing is sweeter than bringing your mom.
Bradley Cooper arrived on the red carpet with his mother, Gloria Campano, on one side and his girlfriend, Irina Shayk, on the other.
And it wasn't just male celebs who brought their biggest fan as their date to the event. Roma star Yalitza Aparicio brought along her mom, who couldn't stop gushing about how proud she is of her 25-year-old daughter. "Muy contenta," her mother told ET. "Es un sueño inolvidable [it's an unforgettable dream]."
Charlize Theron also brought her mother as her date. Theron has described her mom, Gerda Maritz, as being her biggest supporter and the co-parent of her children. "I’m so lucky to have that," Theron told Elle. "I would feel pretty alone if I didn’t have a partner in crime in all of this."
But the biggest tear-jerker of the night had to be when Regina King gave her acceptance speech for best supporting actress. “I’m an example of what it looks like when support and love is poured into someone,” she said before looking directly at her mother who was sitting in the audience. “Mom, I love you so much.”
