1. Alabama: Walking
Alabama has the lowest walking rate in the country, with just 1.2% of Alabamians walking to work. While Alabama might have the worst walking rate, it's not alone in the south for its penchant for cars. According to a 2014 report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the entire south falls in the bottom rung when it comes to residents walking or cycling to work. In contrast, the highest rates were in the Pacific Northwest and east coast.
