2. Alaska: Vitamin D
Alaska is the worst state to get Vitamin D, and anyone from there will know exactly why. During the winter, the days are extremely short! The problem is so prevalent that the Alaska Division of Public Health assembled an Alaska Vitamin D Workgroup, and in 2018 the workgroup recommended that children, infants and pregnant women get a big increase in Vitamin D supplements. Vitamin D deficiencies especially affect Alaska Native children under the age of 10, who had almost twice the national rate of rickets-associated hospitalizations.
