For those who thrive on the buzz in the city that never sleeps, there's no other place they'd rather live than New York. But, that clearly isn't the case for everyone. And it's not the whole picture. New York state is made up of rural communities. Those areas make up a population of around 3.3 million residents in 80% of the square miles.

Since the pandemic, people have been fleeing New York City in record numbers. And for the seventh year in a row, Rich States, Poor States ranks New York at dead last for economic outlook.
