15. Her Song 'Jolene' Was Based On A Real Person
One of Parton's greatest hits, "Jolene," released in 1973, was inspired by two people. She first decided to write the song after meeting a little 8-year-old redhead named Jolene at a performance.

That little girl reminded her of another redhead, a bankteller who was paying a little too much attention to her husband at the time, which is how the story for the song came about.

"She got this terrible crush on my husband," Parton told NPR. "And he just loved going to the bank because she paid him so much attention. It was kinda like a running joke between us."
