1. Clara Bow
Bow was a star of the Jazz Age. In the 1920s, it was permissible to have a "weight clause" in an actress's contract and she had to keep under 118 pounds. Bow only ate around 500 calories a day, typically consisting of orange juice for breakfast, toast and a salad without dressing for lunch, and a meatless dinner. For exercise, she did outdoor sports such as hiking and swimming, and reportedly played tennis every evening and rode a horse every morning. Bow also followed the bizarre '20s trend of rolling around on the floor in tight clothing to lose fat.
