5. Betty Grable
Grable was one of the most popular pin-up idols of the '40s. She was famous for her "million-dollar" legs and trained them through dancing. She also trained with Dick Kline, who promoted "fun" exercise such as "bird-pecking"—literally pursing lips and pecking forward like a bird to avoid a double chin. For a slender waist, Kline had women in class do "The Bargain Basement," in which they shouted "Out of my way! I want that bargain!" while twisting at the waist and pushing away other "customers." As for food, she snacked on onions and garlic.
