5. 1935: Scottish Terrier
Thanks to the Great Depression, there was a trend in the 1930s to get smaller dogs like the Scottish Terrier. In the peak of the depression, 25 percent of the country was unemployed, and farmers left their failing crops to find work in the city, moving into smaller apartments. As more and more people moved into urban spaces and a smaller dog became necessary, the Scottish Terrier became the pick of choice.
