2. 1932: American Staffordshire Terrier
The American Staffordshire Terrier was popular in the 1920s and 1930s thanks to the movie series Our Gang (1927-1938,) which was later known as The Little Rascals. At the center of the movie was Pete the Pup, who was a Staffordshire Terrier with a ring around his eye, and thanks to the booming popularity of the series, everyone wanted a Petey of their own.
