Most of us know and love her as one of the funniest comedians to grace our televisions over the span of decades. But now Carol Burnett will be heading to the big screen on a more serious note with a film adaptation of her memoir Carrie and Me: A Mother-Daughter Love Story.

In the best-selling 2013 book, Burnett details the highs and lows of her relationship with Carrie Hamilton, who battled drug addiction as a teenager. Hamilton later achieved success as a sober adult in the entertainment industry, only to die of cancer at the young age of 38.

Burnett wrote the book hoping that she could help others who are also struggling with loved ones dealing with addiction.

“She got sober when she was 17. I put her in a third rehab place, and oh my God, she hated me,” Burnett told People in 2018. "I came to the conclusion that I had to love her enough to let her hate me. She got sober and we started bonding. We wound up working together, writing a play together. We worked together in three shows."

"I think of her every day," she added. "She never leaves me. I just feel her."

Among the producers of the film are Burnett and none other than our other favorite funny woman, Tina Fey. Fey's collaboration with Burnett doesn't come as a huge surprise. The actress and comedian has been a long-time fan of Burnett’s, presenting her with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 SAG Awards.
